Nathalie Mba Bikoro’s performance of “The Uncomfortable Truth”.

"Nathalie performs from memory as an agent to engage in political issues. The Gold leaf and dust unfolds a representation of the sacred "Other". When Nathalie was travelling through Gabon, she had met a group of child workers living in gold mines scavenging for the minerals. The artist contests against the illegal workforce of children instead of encouraging education and social infrastructures to strengthen communities. Our bodies as symbols also remains the object of labour, modern human slavery, whether physical or mental. The image here acts as a reaction against these industries some newly founded that have been catastrophic in the degenerations of communities, social spaces and the deforestation of the local environment that has so much affected people as well as natural fauna.

Gold mines deep deep deep deep deep into the darkness we dig. Dig for gold, dig for exploration, dig or truth, dig for survival.” - Nathalie Bikoro

Anonymous asked: I'm more shocked that there are Latinx people that don't know the slave trade didn't just stop in the US. I honestly thought every Latinx person knew we probably have black blood in us.

You wanna hear something seriously disturbing?
Less than 5% of the people trafficked in the middle passage went to the US.

Less than 5%.

Thats 95% in the rest of the Americas. The majority went to Brazil and the Caribbean (Jamaica got the most people) and Mexico.

Thats not even counting the over 15% who died in the voyage.

I don’t think people realize the magnitude like they think it was huge in the US but they have no idea. It was millions and millions of people.

Rebloging because this got a lot of notes and I’m happy because its important information that more people should know about and that should be discussed.
